‘Overstate’ is a concept book, concerned with the relationship between art, science and wealth. Using some of the world’s most renowned classical paintings, Overstate asks the question, is art blown out of proportion. Starting with a full sized image of the painting, I shrink the file down to 50 pixels, I then blow the image up 600 times. The book contains 100 paintings from artists whose works have generated millions over the years.

This is siiiiiiiiiiiiiick.

Some type pieces i did on copper that summarise the stages of my project. Heat treated then sandblasted copper.

A wall installation piece. Made from perspex and silicon. These is the making stage and will eventually sit on a wall without the mess behind it but it looks really nice like this as well.

This is an installation piece that did made from highly polished heat treated copper. The quote is from Giuseppe Penone. “The act of touching is an act that helps the understanding of things, the strength of the materials, peculiarities that are missed by the glance.”

Two screen printed posters. A quote from Walter Bagehot. it sums up my project quite nicely. The first is steel the second is copper.

This is another wall installation that is yet to be finished. The perspex letters will be covered in silicon and will be mounted on a white wall. The painting is a separate thing.

These are test pieces for my final wall installation.

This is a wall installation that i am working on. Its a quote from Guiseppe Penone. It talks about how touch is important in coming to understand the materials that are in front of us. My project is about satisfaction and the satisfaction that comes from breaking the rules. Especially being told not to touch things. Also how touch is one of the main senses that you need to engage in order to achieve satisfaction. This is copper that has been heat treated then masked with vinyl laser cut then sandblasted. Te vinyl has not yet been removed. Copper also changes colour when it is heat treated but goes a different spectrum of colours that are a lot more intense and vibrant.

This is a metal sphere that i beat from sheet steel. This was my second attempt and it was a fairly good effort. It wasnt perfectly round but it was done purely by hand and to achieve the even roundness i would need to introduce the Englishman’s wheel. I coloured it as well and achieved a really nice blue.

These are pieces of metal that polished and heat treated to colour them. working towards a final outcome that would encourage the viewer to touch the work using the magpie effect, make something nice and shiny and draw the viewer in.

My current project is about satisfaction and i am going on to look at why it is important to engage the sense of touch to reach total satisfaction.

Please comment with any other things that you find satisfying or explain what you think satisfaction is.

This is the art work that i made at a high resolution for a series of posters about life and money.
